FRISCO – Jerry Jones flew in his helicopter for an advertisement with AT&T to – for lack of a better term – reclaim “Jerry World” from the grasp of FIFA after nine World Cup matches were hosted at “Dallas Stadium.’’
AT&T Stadium is back in default mode.
For the Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, that must mean …
“Football is back!”
Spain defeated France in the FIFA World Cup semifinals on Tuesday in Arlington, and while Jones’ family was scheduled to attend the match, Jerry even had to give up his 50-yard-line suite, per the tournament’s request.
But come Wednesday morning, things were allowed to return to normal. News cameras captured stadium workers removing the FIFA-issued advertisement coverings to restore the grounds to normalcy.
In typical Jerry Jones fashion, he made a story out of it.
The name change – which was standard nationwide as FIFA does not allow in-arena advertisements for brands not directly partnering with the tournament individually – was not the only notable alteration to the Cowboys’ home since 2009.
The stadium’s windows were shaded and temporarily shielded by curtains at times during the tournament. Then, per the tournament’s regulations for playing surfaces, a field of real grass was installed on top of the Cowboys’ custom artificial turf.
Oh yeah, and Jerry’s box.

“Which, by the way, that was tough,” Cowboys executive vice president of business operations Chad Estis told the Dallas Morning News this week.
“When we were told that might happen, we were like, ‘Wow, OK.’’’
Thankfully for the Joneses, their suite is back in the hands of its rightful owner. But Cowboys fans shouldn’t be surprised when the other modifications are not recycled.
But disappointed? Probably yes.
“I don’t think so,” Estis said, regarding whether the team would use the tinted-windows feature for Cowboys games. “We feel like the stadium operates incredibly well for Cowboys games and how we want it to.”
Estis, who is also the chief revenue officer for the team and the stadium, added that particular events call for certain measures.
“It’s a different crowd. Different set of circumstances. The stadium is being used very differently,” Estis said. “The spaces that we use for Cowboys games, some of them weren’t used; some of them were used very differently.”
That goes for the field, as well, despite current Cowboys players like CeeDee Lamb publicly expressing a preference for real grass over turf.

“The way our artificial turf is in our stadium, it’s designed to come in and out because we’re a busy stadium and we have a lot of events, so I don’t anticipate any (change) there,” Estis says.
The Cowboys remain the building’s biggest draw, even when players are blinded by the beaming sun during would-be touchdown catches.
And yes, there are curtains available to use.
And no, Jerry isn’t going to use them, favoring the dramatic stained-glass-effect sun-ray show that draws attention during late-fall and winter afternoon games.

“You know, the curtain thing gets written about a lot. You can ask Jerry about it, as many people do,” Estis said. “But look, we’ve been doing it for 17 years, so we’re excited to get the stadium handed back to us.
“We’re excited to go back to operating it the way we do.”
So yes. The World Cup is out. The Cowboys are in. And football is back.
